Enver-ül Hamit Mosque reopens in Osmaniye after earthquake restoration

The Enver-ül Hamit Mosque, also known locally as the Büyük Cami, has officially reopened for worship in Osmaniye following extensive restoration work. The historic structure, originally built in 1890, sustained heavy damage during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023.

During the reopening ceremony, Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti highlighted the mosque's historical significance, noting that its courtyard served as a headquarters for the Kuvayımilliye militias during the Turkish War of Independence. The restoration was managed by the General Directorate of Foundations, with Sinan Aksu stating that efforts to repair cultural heritage sites damaged by the disaster have been ongoing for approximately three and a half years.

The ceremony included prayers led by Provincial Mufti Ahat Taşcı and was attended by local officials, including AK Party MP Seydi Gülsoy and Mayor İbrahim Çenet. The mosque held its first service since the restoration during Friday prayers.
