Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi announces 2026–2027 falconry season

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced the 2026–2027 traditional falconry hunting season, which is scheduled to run from 20 October 2026 to 31 January 2027. The initiative aims to preserve falconry as a key component of the United Arab Emirates’ cultural heritage while ensuring the protection of wildlife and natural habitats.

Under the regulations, hunting is restricted to licensed falconers and is limited to the hunting of captive-bred Houbara bustards. Activities are permitted in open areas across Abu Dhabi, provided they are at least two kilometres away from main and secondary roads and outside of restricted zones such as protected areas, forests, residential areas, military zones, and petroleum facilities.

To participate, applicants must be UAE nationals aged 18 or older. All falcons used must be registered in the national falcon registration system managed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. Licenses can be obtained electronically via the ‘TAMM’ smart application or website for a seasonal fee of AED 127. License holders are required to comply with all environmental mandates, including hunting only between sunrise and sunset.
