Environmental agencies in Dominican Republic and Peru coordinate emergency and remediation efforts
In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) have strengthened inter-institutional coordination to improve responses to environmental emergencies. Discussions focused on updating the National Forest Fire Support Plan and enhancing search and rescue operations within protected areas to ensure the safety of natural resources and the population.
In Peru, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) is advancing environmental remediation efforts in the Loreto region. During a session of the Environmental Remediation Contingency Fund, officials and indigenous organizations discussed remediation in the Tigre, Pastaza, Corrientes, and Marañón river basins. MINEM is proposing new regulations to expand the list of prioritized impacted sites, with plans to present the proposal to Congress in November.
