Environmental and cultural heritage destruction reported in Argentina and Monte Grande

Environmental and cultural groups are reporting significant land and heritage destruction in separate regions. In Argentina, the organization Somos Monte Chaco has denounced ongoing deforestation in the Almirante Brown department, adjacent to the Loro Hablador Provincial Park. The group claims these activities are proceeding despite an active injunction prohibiting the clearing of native forests, raising concerns regarding the state's ability to enforce environmental regulations.

In another region, the indigenous movement MILPA has raised alarms regarding a real estate project in Monte Grande, San Miguel Centro. The organization alleges that developers Global Developers and Salazar Romero are causing both an ecocide through forest destruction and an ethno-destruction of Lenca and Maya cultural heritage. MILPA reports that prehistoric vestiges, including water springs and archaeological artifacts such as pottery and lithic pieces, are being destroyed or buried by construction activities without sufficient institutional response.
