Environmental and health concerns reported in Lima and Loja

In Lima, Peru, residents in areas including San Juan de Lurigancho, Los Olivos, and Callao reported a strong fish-like odor on Tuesday morning. The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) explained that the smell was caused by light northern winds blowing through industrial zones during the early morning hours. Officials stated this is a seasonal phenomenon and is unlikely to recur soon as southern winds are expected to intensify.

In Loja, Ecuador, Assemblywoman Eliana Correa has called for an investigation into a specific batch of the antihypertensive medication Losartan (lot 14254979A). Citizens reported that the external packaging of the medicine emitted a foul, abnormal odor. Correa has requested that the Ministry of Public Health provide technical details regarding the distribution, traceability, and potential contamination or degradation of this specific lot within ten days.
