Neretva river pollution suspected near Konjic

A potential environmental incident has been reported in the Neretva river near Džajići, close to Konjic. Aladin Bilanović, a local rafting club owner, shared video footage showing a red liquid flowing into the river for approximately 30 minutes.

Bilanović claims the substance is blood originating from a nearby slaughterhouse. He described the scene as a “shameful sight” and an “ecocide,” noting that nearby rocks were stained red by the discharge. The incident occurred on a Wednesday afternoon between 15:30 and 16:00.

The report has caused significant concern among locals and tourists, as the Neretva is heavily used for swimming and rafting during the summer months. While the source and exact nature of the red liquid have not been officially confirmed by authorities, Bilanović has called on the police and inspection services to investigate the matter and determine responsibility for the potential pollution.
