Environmental and poaching enforcement actions reported in Italy
Authorities in Italy have conducted separate operations targeting illegal fishing and poaching. In Fiumicino, the Coast Guard and Marevivo Foundation successfully removed a 150-meter ‘ghost net’ illegally placed in the Tiber River near the Isola di Tor Boacciana. The removal, supported by a Dragsub pontoon and crane, addressed risks to both river navigation and aquatic biodiversity.
In the Brescia province, Carabinieri conducted anti-poaching operations in Artogne and Nave. Two men, aged 51 and 59, were arrested for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as the unauthorized capture of protected species. Seized items included three rifles, 268 cartridges, snap traps, and bird-catching nets. Authorities also recovered several dead protected birds, including robins and a finch.
