Environmental and urban management initiatives in Spain and Chile

In Chiclana, Spain, the 2026/27 Environmental Education program has launched with five initial activities for the October and November period. Organized by Chiclana Natural, the initiatives include bird watching, nest box placement, ecological gardening, and workshops focused on trees and bats. The program aims to engage students across all educational levels to foster environmental awareness.

In Chile, discussions regarding urban and environmental management have surfaced. Concerns have been raised regarding the approval of a 500-apartment project near the Paicaví Wetland in Concepción, highlighting the potential for increased flood risks if natural drainage infrastructure is destroyed. Experts suggest that the costs of mitigating such environmental risks may eventually fall on the state or citizens rather than developers.

Additionally, the rise of micromobility in urban areas has created tension between pedestrians and users of electric scooters and bicycles. Proposals to resolve these conflicts include the implementation of segregated infrastructure, improved education and enforcement of traffic regulations, and a cultural shift toward prioritizing pedestrian safety.
