Environmental awareness initiatives held in Slovakia and Hungary

Regional environmental initiatives in Slovakia and Hungary have highlighted community efforts toward sustainability. In Slovakia, the Kuka Manó waste collection competition saw 42 schools across three regions participate. The South Slovakian region alone contributed 171,000 kilograms of paper, contributing to a total of 278,000 kilograms collected. This effort is estimated to have saved approximately 4,730 trees, 7 million liters of water, and 1.1 million kilowatt-hours of energy, while reducing CO2 emissions by 820 tons.

In Dunajská Streda, the Kodály Zoltán Primary School ranked first in paper collection with 21,000 kilograms. Additionally, the region participated in the ‘Ride to Work’ campaign, promoting walking, cycling, and public transport.

In Hungary, the 21st European Mobility Week featured interactive programs designed to educate youth on climate change. Events included urban planning games, scientific demonstrations, and film screenings aimed at fostering environmental responsibility and community cooperation within the framework of European Union standards.
