Environmental cleanup and waste collection initiatives in Mexico and Colombia

In Cancun, Mexico, a cleanup operation at the Nichupté Mangrove Flora and Fauna Protection Area resulted in the removal of over 1.6 tons of waste. The effort, part of the National Conservation Week, involved volunteers and officials from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp). The collected debris included 610 kilograms of urban solid waste and one ton of special management waste, which were separated for proper disposal to protect local biodiversity and water quality.

In Santander, Colombia, the Regional Autonomous Corporation for the Defense of the Bucaramanga Plateau (CDMB) has scheduled a post-consumer waste collection drive for October 28 and 29. The initiative covers 13 municipalities and targets hazardous or specialized materials such as batteries, electronic devices, lighting elements, agricultural pesticide containers, used vegetable oil, and tires. The program aims to promote circular economy practices and prevent contaminants from entering conventional landfills.
