Environmental conservation and natural phenomena in Chile and Colombia

In Chile, the Atacama, Coquimbo, and Antofagasta regions are expected to experience the blooming desert phenomenon this year. The event is projected to cover more than 15,000 km², with flowering intensifying from mid-September through October and potentially extending into November in coastal areas. Authorities emphasize the need for responsible tourism to protect this fragile ecosystem, advising visitors to stay on designated paths and avoid picking flowers or seeds.

In Colombia, the Propágulos Research Seedbed from the Luis López de Mesa Educational Institution has implemented the ‘Lancha del Saber’ (Boat of Knowledge) initiative in Bahía Solano, Chocó. For over a decade, this program has used boat trips to bring environmental education to rural students, integrating scientific research with ancestral knowledge to promote the sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems.
