Environmental crises reported in Peru and Mexico

In Humay, Peru, the Specialized Mixed Prosecutor's Office for Ecological Crimes has launched an investigation into Mayor Carlos Sulca Velarde and other municipal officials. The investigation follows allegations of aggravated pollution in the Pisco River basin, where solid waste and untreated sewage are reportedly being discharged into the water. Local communities report that the contamination poses severe risks to both the ecosystem and human health.

In La Paz, Mexico, residents of the Ampliación Centenario neighborhood are facing a public health emergency due to a collapsed sewage network. A large pool of wastewater has flooded streets and homes, creating foul odors and blocking pedestrian access. Despite reports to the municipal water agency, OOMSAPAS, residents claim that no technical crews have been dispatched to resolve the leak, which has persisted for over a week.
