Environmental Damage Reported at Apu Razuhuillca Mountain in Ayacucho, Peru

Local residents in the Huanta province of Ayacucho reported that a recent traditional celebration on the slopes of Apu Razuhuillca left solid waste, alcohol bottles and other debris in the area. Witnesses said participants also caused a forest fire that burned part of the mountain.

The mountain’s lagoons supply water for drinking and agriculture in the province, prompting community concern over potential contamination. Residents have called on the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, the Provincial Municipality of Huanta and the District Municipality of Uchuraccay to investigate the incident and determine responsibility.
