Environmental education initiatives launched for children in Greece

Students in Lesvos participated in an educational program focused on birdwatching and wetland conservation at the Kalloni Gulf. Using telescopes and binoculars, children from Petra and Styps primary schools identified various species, including flamingos, cormorants, and various types of herons. The initiative, part of the West Lesvos Municipality’s “Autumn Festival for Wetlands and Birds,” was organized in collaboration with the Kalloni Environmental Awareness Center and the Lesvos Fossil Forest Natural History Museum, with funding from the Green Fund.

In Lykovrysi–Pefki, the municipality organized a recycling and environmental protection workshop for children in local municipal nurseries. Held at the Benisi Multipurpose Center, the program used experiential learning and games to teach waste management and the creative reuse of materials. Mayor Marios Psychalis emphasized that environmental protection begins with education and small daily habits, noting the importance of investing in children to ensure a sustainable future for the city.
