Environmental efforts focus on forest restoration and deforestation reduction
In Mozambique, researchers and technicians participated in a training program focused on the ecological restoration of miombo forests and mangroves. Organized by Eduardo Mondlane University in partnership with the University of Helsinki, the initiative aimed to strengthen scientific and practical skills to address biodiversity loss and climate change. The program included field visits to the Pomene National Reserve to observe these ecosystems directly.
In Brazil, recent data from Imazon shows that Amazon deforestation fell by 17% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching its lowest level for that period in eight years. To maintain this trend, the Igarapé Institute has proposed six strategic priorities. These aim to institutionalize environmental monitoring and combat the economic drivers of forest destruction, ensuring that progress remains resilient to political shifts ahead of upcoming elections and international climate conferences.
