Environmental enforcement actions reported in Mexico and Colombia

Authorities in Mexico and Colombia have taken action against separate environmental violations. In Cihuatlán, Mexico, a man identified as Pedro “N” was arrested at El Coco beach after a citizen report. Municipal police discovered 125 olive ridley sea turtle eggs in a bag, along with a motorcycle used for transport. The case has been referred to the Fiscalía General de la República, where a judge has linked the suspect to a federal process for crimes against the environment.

In Neiva, Colombia, environmental control operations in the Pozo Ancho sector identified a citizen illegally disposing of construction and demolition waste near the Río del Oro protection zone. Local authorities, including the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Agropecuario and the Environmental Police, issued a summons to the individual. The case is being referred to the Police Inspection for processing under Law 1801 of 2016.
