Environmental groups propose structural alternatives to plastic pollution policies
Environmental organizations in France are proposing an alternative “Plastic Plan” to address plastic pollution, arguing that current government initiatives focus too heavily on recycling rather than tackling the root causes of overproduction.
During the 9th World Sea Forum in Bizerte, international legal expert Shérazade Zaiter presented a digital traceability platform designed to monitor and value collected plastic. The project aims to foster trust and transparency in the plastic trade to prevent illegal flows and criminal networks from exploiting waste markets.
In France, following announcements by President Emmanuel Macron regarding a recycling deposit system, several NGOs—including France Nature Environnement, Surfrider Foundation Europe, and Zero Waste France—have submitted 15 structural proposals. These recommendations focus on reducing plastic use across all sectors, strengthening industrial obligations, combating environmental pollution, and preventing health risks associated with plastics.
