Environmental groups sue Vantage and VoltaGrid over San Antonio data centers

Three environmental organizations—the Environmental Integrity Project, the Sierra Club, and Public Citizen—have filed a federal lawsuit against data center developer Vantage and energy supplier VoltaGrid. The lawsuit concerns two data center campuses in San Antonio, Texas.

The plaintiffs allege that the facilities and their associated gas-fueled power plants were developed without necessary permits, public input, or required pollution-control technology. The suit notes that the power plants have a 405-megawatt capacity, while an additional 151 backup diesel generators would add 455 megawatts of capacity.

Environmental groups argue the development could release thousands of tons of air pollutants in an area that already fails federal smog standards, potentially causing respiratory issues for local residents.
