Environmental initiatives emerge in Turkey through community recycling and cleaning efforts

Various community-led environmental initiatives are being undertaken in Turkey to promote cleanliness and recycling. In Malatya's Battalgazi district, women are collaborating with İnönü University to convert waste cooking oil into natural soap. Supported by academics from the university's Chemical Engineering Department, the project aims to prevent environmental damage caused by improper oil disposal and contribute to the economy by repurposing waste. The produced soaps are intended for free distribution to schools, public institutions, and families in need.

In a separate effort, students Mustafa Eymen Uysal and Alihan Duman have been conducting local cleaning activities. The youths have been collecting trash and clearing weeds to improve the environment for both people and animals, noting that litter and thorny plants can harm local wildlife, such as cats and birds.
