Environmental initiatives focus on biodiversity and green governance in Italy

Various environmental initiatives and seminars are scheduled in Italy to address biodiversity and sustainable governance.

In Vasto, an event titled ‘Un incontro per la biodiversità – Conoscere la natura per custodire il futuro’ will take place on August 31, 2026, at the Giardini di Palazzo d’Avalos. The meeting aims to bring together administrators, naturalists, and environmental associations to discuss ecosystem protection and sustainability. The program includes institutional greetings from Mayor Francesco Menna and presentations on coastal biodiversity, specifically focusing on the nesting habits of the Kentish plover at Punta Penna.

In Sicily, a seminar on ‘green governance of protected areas’ is set for September 12, 2026, in Sant’Agata di Militello. Organized by the Società Italiana del Dottorato di Ricerca (Sidri), the event will focus on the Nebrodi Park. Domenico Barbuzza, president of the Nebrodi Park, emphasized the need to balance environmental protection with the economic development of local communities, integrating scientific research with sustainable tourism and local participation.
