Environmental initiatives focus on poaching prevention and urban sustainability

In Argentina, the Guaraypo Rural Crimes Division conducted operations near Route 16 in Montecarlo to combat poaching. Using a combination of ground tracking and drone technology, officers dismantled two hidden camps used by illegal hunters. During the incursions, authorities discovered traps, salt licks used to attract wildlife, and animal bone remains. The operation is part of a permanent deployment by Regional Unit XV to protect native species and prevent illegal hunting in the Misiones jungle.

In Ecuador, the Universidad Espíritu Santo (UEES) hosted the ‘Inspiring Green Urban Futures’ hackathon. Thirteen student teams developed projects aimed at addressing climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable urbanism in the Samborondón canton. The proposals focused on water management, habitat recovery, circular economy, and sustainable urban planning. The initiative sought to bridge academic learning with real-world environmental challenges by requiring students to present viable, executable plans to a jury of university officials and local government representatives.
