Environmental initiatives in Italy face funding and waste challenges
In Tuscany, local environmental and wildlife initiatives are facing significant challenges. The CRAS Semia wildlife recovery center in Montespertoli has launched a GoFundMe campaign to prevent the facility from closing. Dr. Donatella Gelli, the center's manager, reported that the structure is at a breaking point and requires urgent funds for medications, food, and medical equipment to continue treating injured and debilitated wild animals.
Separately, volunteers participating in the 'Adotta una cala' initiative removed approximately 78kg of waste from Cala del Leone. More than 20 volunteers from various organizations, including AAMPS, Legambiente, and Plastic Free, collected 24 bags of litter, including plastic, cans, and bottles, found on the beach and along pathways. Organizers expressed frustration over the lack of civic responsibility among visitors who leave trash behind in the area.
