Brazil implements nationwide Agosto Lilás campaigns to combat violence against women

Various municipalities and state agencies across Brazil are conducting extensive awareness campaigns and service expansions as part of ‘Agosto Lilás’. This national movement, held in honor of the Maria da Penha Law, focuses on preventing and combating domestic and family violence against women.

In the state of São Paulo, initiatives include the ‘SP Por Todas’ mobile unit providing support in Itapevi and the ‘Não se Cale Vai à Escola’ program, which brings police delegates to state schools in 56 municipalities, including Guarulhos, to educate students and staff. Other regional actions include educational blitzes in João Monlevade, health-focused walks in Caraguatatuba and Ubatuba, and intensified lectures in Macaé.

In Acre, the ‘Simulher’ web system was launched to unify and digitize the management of services for women in vulnerable situations. Additionally, the Ministry of Women is promoting workshops in Porto Alegre to present a new protocol for protecting women during climate emergencies, a collaboration involving UN Women and GIZ.
