Environmental initiatives launched in Peru and Spain

Peru has announced the relaunch of the Sierra Verde program, which will invest US$ 300 million over the next five years to reforest 50,000 hectares in the Andes. Announced by Keiko Fujimori during a Rainforest Alliance event at the United Nations General Assembly, the initiative aims to recover water sources, improve soil quality, and strengthen productive systems for 100 communities. The project expects to preserve 100 million cubic meters of groundwater and generate over 350,000 jobs.

In Spain, the Community of Madrid is allocating 11 million euros to restore and conserve high-value ecological wetlands. This investment is part of a long-term action plan to protect spaces essential for biodiversity, climate regulation, and freshwater storage. Since 2021, 5.5 million euros have already been utilized for restorations in areas such as San Juan, Sotillo, and Las Madres. Additionally, the Peñalara Massif wetlands are marking 20 years of international importance under the Ramsar List, celebrated with scientific conferences to discuss conservation and hydrological research.
