Environmental inspections conducted in Ruse and Dimitrovgrad
Environmental authorities in Bulgaria have conducted several inspections following citizen reports of air quality issues and odors.
In Dimitrovgrad, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIOSV) investigated industrial plants after monitoring stations recorded sulfur dioxide concentrations significantly exceeding legal limits. The spikes, which reached up to 2.09 times the hourly norm, were attributed to emissions from the Maritsa 3 thermal power plant combined with specific meteorological conditions such as calm winds. RIOSV has issued instructions for the operator to implement additional measures to limit emissions.
In Ruse, inspectors performed emergency checks in the Eastern Industrial Zone following complaints regarding suffocating odors of petroleum products and smoke. Investigations into facilities including Polybitum EOOD and Patinzheniering AD found only localized odors characteristic of their production processes. Air quality monitoring stations in Ruse did not record any exceedances of pollutant norms during the period in question.
