Environmental police conduct enforcement actions in Brazil

Environmental police in Brazil conducted separate enforcement operations in São Mateus do Sul and Rondonópolis.

In São Mateus do Sul, authorities seized five wild birds—including species such as trinca-ferro, pintassilgo, azulão, and canário-da-terra—that were being held in illegal captivity. The seizure followed a tip to the 181 hotline. The responsible individual was fined R$ 2.5 thousand and issued a criminal infraction report. The birds and their cages were confiscated to be transferred to the appropriate environmental agency for care.

In Rondonópolis, police responded to noise pollution complaints in the João Antônio Fagundes neighborhood. Using a decibel meter, officers recorded noise levels at 86.5 decibels, which dropped to 65.5 decibels once the equipment was turned off. An LG XBOOM speaker was seized, and the individual responsible was taken to the Civil Police Station for legal proceedings under the Federal Environmental Crimes Law.
