Environmental recovery efforts continue in Molinaseca and Seville

In Molinaseca, the Meruelo River and its river pool area are gradually returning to normal nearly two weeks after a severe flood on August 15. Following intense storms in the Bierzo region, local authorities have conducted cleaning and repair work to remove mud, stones, and debris carried by the water. The riverbed and the bathing area near the bridge are progressively recovering their usual appearance.

In Seville, the water in the Plaza de España moat is also recovering after being covered by a dense layer of green algae and microorganisms. Technical reports indicate the issue arose because the moat was filled directly with untreated groundwater from wells, which contained high concentrations of nitrates and phosphates. Combined with high temperatures, this triggered rapid biological growth. Municipal workers have applied chemical treatments, including specific anti-algae agents and increased sodium hypochlorite, to clarify the water and eliminate the algae without harming local fauna.
