Environmental restoration projects launched in Hungary

Several ecological restoration initiatives are underway in Hungary to combat invasive species and restore natural habitats. In the Tihany region, the Balatonalmádi municipality is partnering with the Tihany Limnological Research Institute on a pilot project to remove concrete shore protection structures at a local beach. The goal is to replace artificial shorelines with natural, sandy, and gradually deepening structures to restore the lake's natural ecosystem.

Additionally, a large-scale reforestation and conservation effort is occurring on Nyáros Island within the Táti island group. Through a collaboration between Pilisi Parkerdő, the Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate, and the North Transdanubian Water Management Directorate, 76,500 native saplings have been planted. This project aims to restore the island's degraded, gravelly surface—damaged by historical river regulation and soil erosion—to a soft-wooded riparian forest by 2030, utilizing cattle to assist in managing invasive plant species.
