Environmental themes headline upcoming Hay Festival and SUNCINE film festival

The Hay Festival Arequipa 2026 will take place from November 5 to 8, focusing on the environment and the human relationship with nature. The event will feature discussions on the climate crisis, ancestral Amazonian wisdom, and changing landscapes. Notable participants include Spanish environmental journalist Xabier Díaz de Cerio, who will present his book ‘Está que quema’ regarding the role of media in environmental reporting, and Peruvian biologist and explorer Rosa Vásquez Espinoza, an expert on Amazonian conservation.

In Spain, the 33rd edition of SUNCINE, the world’s oldest environmental film festival, will run from November 4 to 22, 2026. Held in Calafell and Barcelona, with online access via CaixaForum+, the festival’s theme is ‘The cinema that leaves a mark.’ The programming addresses diverse ecological issues, including biodiversity loss, water scarcity, energy transition, mining, and the rights of indigenous peoples.
