Environmental updates: Zarra waste project expires and Ráquira secures water treatment funding
In Spain, the environmental authorization process for a proposed waste complex in Zarra, located in the Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora, has been archived due to expiration. The General Directorate of Quality and Environmental Education issued the resolution after the company TRECO Gestión de Residuos S. L. failed to provide required documentation within the established timeframe. Consequently, the local platform against the macro-landfill has canceled a planned protest in Valencia.
In Colombia, the Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR) and the Mayor's Office of Ráquira have reached an agreement to develop a wastewater treatment plant (PTAR). The CAR has committed to financing 100% of the studies and designs for the project, which aims to sanitize sewage for approximately 3,000 residents. The municipality is responsible for acquiring the land required for the infrastructure.
