Environmental volunteers conduct waste cleanups in Germany

Volunteer groups in Germany have conducted significant waste removal operations as part of environmental cleanup efforts. In Thuringia, members of the Niedertrebra fishing club recovered three tons of waste from a section of the Ilm river near Eberstedt. Approximately 2.3 tons of the collected material consisted of scrap metal, much of which appeared to have been discarded during the former GDR era. The operation was supported by the Thuringian State Office for Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation.

In Sulzbach, participants marking World Cleanup Day removed 184.7 kilograms of trash from a forested area along the L 126. The collected items included tires, shoes, glass bottles, cans, and a lawnmower. Organizers noted that this area had been cleaned previously in 2024, yet a significant amount of illegal waste had accumulated again within two years.
