Environmental waste collection initiatives reported in Spain and Colombia
In Cabo de Palos, Spain, the association PROCABO has organized a community cleaning day for beaches, coves, and the port area. The initiative serves as a protest against the Cartagena City Council, with the association claiming that municipal cleaning services are insufficient and irregular. PROCABO argues that service is disproportionately concentrated in high-traffic tourist areas, leaving other parts of the territory underserved throughout the year.
In Colombia, a coordinated environmental effort in San José del Guaviare, El Retorno, and Calamar resulted in the collection of one ton of post-consumption waste. The collection included computers, electrical and electronic devices, human and veterinary medicines, and agricultural packaging. The Corporación Lumina reported that approximately 95% of the managed waste can be repurposed, while non-reusable components are sent to specialized plants for final disposal.
