Environmentalist Věra Kafková nominated for Olomouc regional award

Věra Kafková, a student at Palacký University in Olomouc, has been nominated for the regional Olomouc County Award in the category "Significant contribution to environmental protection – individual". Her 2023‑2025 urban flora survey recorded 324 non‑native and 54 endangered plant species, discovered 19 species new to the Czech Republic, and documented the first European record of a pink‑flowering poppy. For this work she received the Vít Grulich Prize from the Czech Botanical Society. Voting for the award runs until 31 August 2026.

The nomination highlights the importance of local biodiversity research and public engagement with urban nature in the Czech Republic.
