Enzo Maresca discusses Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden at Manchester City

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has addressed the playing style of Rayan Cherki following the player's standout performance in a 5-1 Champions League victory against AEK Athens. Cherki, who joined from Lyon in 2025, is noted for his creative dribbling and high-risk play, which recently resulted in both a goal and a record eight ball losses in a single match.

Maresca praised Cherki as ‘one of the best in Europe’ and a special talent, though he advised the midfielder to avoid overcomplicating situations and to maintain tactical discipline.

Additionally, Maresca discussed his commitment to restoring Phil Foden to the top tier of English football, noting that Foden's development is a priority. Regarding squad fitness, the manager confirmed Erling Haaland is fully available, while the status of Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly, and Mateo Kovačić remains uncertain pending training sessions.
