Enzo Maresca to succeed Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager

Manchester City are close to confirming Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor. After weeks of talks with Chelsea, the clubs appear to have reached a compensation deal reportedly worth around €20 million (about £17 million), clearing the contractual hurdles that blocked the Italian coach’s move. Maresca, 45, previously served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s 2022‑23 treble‑winning season and has managed Leicester, Chelsea and won the Club World Cup. He is expected to sign a three‑year contract and take over the Etihad Stadium ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign. The settlement will provide Chelsea with a sizable payment for the early termination of Maresca’s contract, which ran until 2029. City are also planning major transfer activity, targeting midfielder Elliot Anderson and other players as they rebuild after Guardiola’s decade‑long tenure.
