EOCO returns seized cash and devices to former Ghana Buffer Stock CEO

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has returned several seized items to Hanan Abdul Wahab Hanan, the former CEO of the Ghana Buffer Stock Company, and his wife, Hajia Faiza Wuni. The returned property includes £6,700, GH¢2,750, two laptops, and at least six mobile phones.

The return follows a legal challenge by the defense. During a hearing on September 29, 2026, lead defense counsel and former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame argued that the trial could not proceed while the items were held by the state. He stated that the mobile phones contained information essential for the defense to prepare adequately and to challenge documents intended for use by the prosecution, citing constitutional protections.

Hanan and his wife are facing trial on financial crime charges involving alleged offenses against the state. Some items were seized during 2025 investigations, while others were taken during Hanan’s arrest at an airport on July 4, 2026, despite a High Court order allowing him to travel for medical treatment.
