EPDK permits higher discharge power for charging station storage

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has introduced a new regulation allowing integrated battery storage facilities at electric vehicle charging stations to have a discharge power exceeding the station's contracted grid capacity.

Previously, the installed capacity of integrated storage facilities was limited to the consumption facility's contracted power. Under the new rules, charging units can be powered by storage systems with higher discharge capacities, enabling high-power charging services without requiring immediate increases in grid connection capacity.

To maintain grid security, the regulation mandates the installation of automatic power control and energy cutoff systems. These systems must prevent the station from drawing more power from the grid than its contracted limit and must also prevent energy from being fed back into the grid. This measure aims to provide a cost-effective alternative to expensive infrastructure upgrades, such as new transformers, particularly in locations with high demand or limited connection capacity.
