EPDK defers electricity advance payments in earthquake zones
The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has announced a deferral of advance payments for specific electricity sales in four distribution regions: Akedaş, Dicle, Fırat, and Toraslar. This decision, aimed at addressing the ongoing impacts of the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, extends the payment deadline to the invoice due date throughout 2027. No default interest will be applied to market participants during this period. This regulation applies to supply companies operating in these regions, including those with direct or indirect partnerships with Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs).
Separately, widespread planned electricity outages are scheduled across various Turkish provinces due to maintenance, network improvements, and investment projects. Significant outages are reported in Istanbul, where BEDAŞ has scheduled works in 15 districts on the European side, with some interruptions lasting up to 8 hours. Other regions facing planned cuts include İzmir, Bursa, Gaziantep, Denizli, Eskişehir, Aydın, Rize, Trabzon, and Kırıkkale.
In Kırıkkale, a new energy transmission line project has been completed in Sarıkayalar village to improve infrastructure and prevent winter outages. Meanwhile, in İzmir, discussions continue regarding the expansion of natural gas infrastructure to neighborhoods in Menemen, Dikili, and Seferihisar.
