EPFO advises members to update KYC details to prevent claim rejections

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is advising salaried members to verify and update their Know Your Customer (KYC) details online to prevent the rejection of withdrawal, advance, or transfer claims.

To avoid automated rejections and processing delays, members should ensure that their Aadhaar, Permanent Account Number (PAN), and bank account details are accurate and correctly linked via the Unified Member Portal or the UMANG app. Key areas for verification include ensuring that the name, date of birth, and gender in PF records match Aadhaar data identically, and that the correct IFSC code and active bank account are seeded.

Failure to maintain updated records can lead to failed direct benefit transfers and higher tax liabilities, such as a 30 per cent Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on accounts where a PAN is not linked and service is under five years. Additionally, members are encouraged to complete their e-nomination through Aadhaar e-sign and regularly monitor their passbooks to ensure monthly employer and employee contributions are being deposited correctly.
