EPFO expands digital services for UAN management via UMANG app
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has expanded its digital services on the UMANG platform, allowing formal sector workers to manage their Universal Account Number (UAN) via mobile devices. New features include the ability to generate, activate, and authenticate UANs using Aadhaar-based facial recognition, reducing the need for physical visits to regional offices.
For new employees, the UMANG app provides a 'UAN Allotment and Activation' feature. After submitting Aadhaar details and verifying identity through a mobile camera scan, the system checks for duplicate accounts and issues a UAN via SMS. Existing members can also use the app to activate portal credentials using their UAN and Aadhaar information.
Additionally, employees who have changed jobs frequently may find themselves with multiple PF accounts or different Member IDs under a single UAN. To maintain continuity in retirement savings, workers can use the EPFO member portal to identify older accounts and initiate online transfers to their current account through the 'One Member – One EPF Account' service.
