EPFO implements Aadhaar Face Authentication for UAN activation

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has updated its processes for Universal Account Number (UAN) management. The traditional method for direct UAN allotment and activation on the Unified Portal has been discontinued. To enhance security and reduce data mismatches, the EPFO has made Aadhaar Face Authentication Technology (FAT) mandatory for generating new UANs and activating existing ones.

This new system integrates the UMANG app with the UIDAI Aadhaar Face RD app. By using smartphone face scanning, employees can verify their identity against the UIDAI database, which automatically populates accurate details such as name, photo, and date of birth into their EPFO profiles. This move aims to eliminate human error and prevent cyber fraud.

Additionally, employees are advised to ensure their 'Date of Exit' is accurately recorded on the UAN portal. Incorrect or missing exit dates can lead to complications in transferring provident funds to new employers, calculating pension eligibility under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), and processing partial or full PF withdrawals.
