EPFO implements wage ceiling proposal and digital service updates

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is implementing several structural changes and policy proposals. The Finance Ministry has approved a proposal to raise the mandatory wage ceiling for EPF coverage from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month, a move currently awaiting Cabinet approval. This expansion would bring more employees under mandatory coverage but increase compliance costs for companies and pension expenditures for the government.

Technological updates include the expansion of the auto-settlement benefit for PF withdrawals and the transfer of UAN activation to the Umang App, which will now utilize Aadhaar-based Face Authentication. Additionally, the EPFO is automating the PF transfer process for Aadhaar-linked and KYC-compliant members to reduce paperwork.

Subscribers are advised to verify their service history, including company names, joining dates, and exit dates, to avoid issues with fund transfers or withdrawals. Discrepancies in UAN linking or job records can be rectified through the EPFO Grievance Portal or a Joint Declaration.
