EPFO introduces automatic PF transfer for employees changing jobs

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced an automatic Provident Fund (PF) transfer facility for eligible members. This new system, facilitated through the Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform, allows employees who change jobs to have their previous PF balances transferred to their new accounts without the need for separate manual applications.

To utilize this service, employees must use their existing Universal Account Number (UAN) when joining a new company rather than creating a new one. The process requires that the UAN be linked to Aadhaar and that personal details such as name and date of birth are accurately recorded. Once the new employer registers the joining details in the EPFO records, the transfer occurs automatically for eligible members.

In cases where balances appear separate or do not transfer automatically, employees are advised to verify that both the old and new member IDs are linked to the same UAN. It is recommended to check the KYC status and ensure the exit date from the previous employment is correctly updated in the EPFO portal. Users should avoid withdrawing old funds prematurely and instead ensure all accounts are consolidated under a single UAN to maintain a continuous service record and retirement savings.
