Epic Aircraft receives FAA certification for Garmin Autoland on E1000 AX
Epic Aircraft has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for the Garmin Autoland system on its E1000 AX single-engine turboprop. The system is designed to enhance safety by allowing the aircraft to land autonomously in the event of pilot incapacitation.
A distinguishing feature of the E1000 AX is the inclusion of multiple activation buttons located throughout the cabin, providing passengers with direct access to the system. Once engaged, the Autoland system autonomously selects an appropriate airport based on distance, runway length, fuel levels, terrain, and weather. It then navigates to the site, communicates with air traffic control, informs passengers, executes the landing, and shuts down the engine without pilot intervention.
The E1000 AX is a six-seat, carbon-fiber aircraft powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67A engine. The Autoland system integrates with the Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck and works alongside the Garmin Autothrottle to manage engine power and protect against overspeed or underspeed conditions.
