Epic Games accuses Apple of blocking alternative app stores in Brazil

Epic Games has filed a petition with Brazil’s antitrust authority, CADE, accusing Apple of obstructing the implementation of alternative app stores on its operating systems.

The company claims that while Apple has formally agreed to allow third-party stores to resolve previous regulatory investigations in Brazil, the actual process remains inaccessible. Epic Games alleges that Apple is using technical barriers, complex procedures, and restrictive access conditions to prevent developers and users from utilizing these alternative platforms.

The complaint specifically targets the availability of alternative stores on iPadOS, the warning screens displayed during installation processes, and the reporting obligations imposed by Apple. Epic Games argues these measures undermine the competition that the agreement with CADE was intended to foster.
