Epic Games launches Epic Parties cross-platform voice chat

Epic Games has launched ‘Epic Parties’, a new cross-platform voice chat feature designed to integrate its gaming ecosystem. The tool allows players to maintain continuous voice communication across different hardware and applications, including Fortnite, the Epic Games Store desktop launcher, and the Epic Games mobile app.

A key capability of the feature is seamless transition; players can start a voice party on a mobile device and continue the conversation without hanging up when switching to a PC or console to play Fortnite. The system also supports background execution, allowing voice chats to remain active while players use other third-party games on the Epic Games Store.

Epic Games intends to expand its social infrastructure over the coming years. This includes introducing social avatars beyond Fortnite and integrating these social features into Rocket League by 2027 as it moves to Unreal Engine 6. The company’s long-term goal is to make this cross-platform communication and social functionality available to all third-party developers within its ecosystem by 2027.
