Epigenetics research highlights role of gene regulation in health

Medical research is increasingly focusing on epigenetics, the study of factors that regulate gene expression without changing the underlying DNA sequence. Professor Pier Mario Biava, a researcher with over 100 scientific publications, has specialized in epigenetics and cellular reprogramming since the late 1980s.

While the Human Genome Project (1990–2003) successfully mapped approximately 25,000 human genes, epigenetics suggests that health is not determined solely by inherited genetic code. Instead, environmental and other regulatory factors play a significant role in how genes function.
