Episcopal Church installs first transgender cathedral dean in Milwaukee

All Saints’ Cathedral in Milwaukee has installed the Very Rev. Micah Cronin as its new dean, marking what is believed to be the first time a transgender-identifying individual has held a dean position in the history of the Episcopal Church.

Cronin, who identifies as a man, shared during an introductory message to the congregation that the Episcopal Church provided a sense of acceptance that previous denominations, including the Methodist Church, did not offer. Cronin is married to the Rev. Elias Henry, who also identifies as transgender and serves in an LGBT-affirming Lutheran campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
