Episcopal Conference of Honduras calls for teacher dignity

The Episcopal Conference of Honduras (CEH) issued a statement honoring teachers, describing them as essential builders of the nation’s future. The bishops emphasized that true education extends beyond academic programs to include the formation of integrity, respect, and social responsibility.

A central theme of the message was the need to restore the dignity and moral authority of educators. The CEH warned that educational excellence cannot be demanded if teachers feel unprotected, unrecognized, or abandoned amidst increasingly complex social challenges. The statement called for a collective responsibility involving the family, the State, the Church, and society to support teachers.

The bishops specifically highlighted the challenges faced by rural teachers who often lack adequate infrastructure, transportation, and materials. Furthermore, the CEH urged for a stronger alliance between families and schools, noting that parents and teachers should act as allies rather than adversaries. The message also noted that schools must address technological shifts, such as artificial intelligence, rather than simply prohibiting them.
