EPOC Enviro launches full-scale PFAS removal trial using SAFF® at Australian sewage plant

Australian company EPOC Enviro has begun a full‑scale trial of its Surface‑Active Foam Fractionation (SAFF®) technology at a confidential wastewater treatment plant in Australia. Bench‑scale tests previously demonstrated more than 97% removal of ΣPFAS (30) and at least 99% removal of C6 chemistries from the aqueous phase, and over 80% removal from the biosolids phase. The trial, now in its third month, is evaluating reliable, scalable performance and is already exceeding Australian NEPM 3.0 regulatory requirements.

The initiative aims to address the global blind spot where sewage treatment plants discharge untreated PFAS into rivers, soils and farmland. Managing Director Peter Murphy said PFAS removal has long been seen as intractable, but the trial shows it can be done efficiently and cost‑effectively. Results are expected in the coming months, and EPOC Enviro plans further full‑scale sewage operations in the United States and Europe. Since its launch in 2018, SAFF® has treated over 1.8 billion litres of PFAS‑contaminated water at more than 60 sites on four continents.
